Wonderful introduction to all aspects of pottery, including handbuilding and wheel work through to final glazing. Good class to begin with.

Handbuilding - 8 weeks
Exciting off-wheel work including basic hand-building techniques. Challenging projects using coloured clays and decorative relief for advanced students. Recommended learning for all pottery students in addition to wheel classes. Bilingual instructor.

Introduction to pottery on the wheel. Covers clay preparation, centering, throwing cylinders, trimming a foot, making a mug, pulling and attaching a handle, applying slip colours and glazing.

For students who can centre clay and would like learn to throw a variety of lids, closed in forms, bowls, plates etc. Prerequisite: able to consistently throw a cylinder as high as it is wide.

This is an opportunity for the more advanced student to have the stimulus of an instructor for one hour and then practice for two hours. Prerequisite: able to consistently throw a cylinder twice as high as is wide.

Studio Member - 14 weeks
Opportunity to use the studio on an independent basis. Members have access to 21 hours of time to continue work on their own projects. Must have taken at least one course with Gloucester Pottery School and be familiar with studio equipment and rules. Materials must be purchased through Gloucester Pottery School. Individuals must use their own hand tools.
