Stage Combat

Do you want to learn how to Stage Fight? Ever wonder how actors stay safe in movies or plays? Most storytelling includes physical conflict. From "Romeo and Juliet" to "Star Wars", the ability to stay safe and to deliver what the fight director needs are huge assets for the actor.

This workshop will start with unarmed stage combat and move to swords and sticks.

Tour to Young Audiences

SAC - OYP - TOUR Young Audiences
What is acting all about? Sharing! This class builds a show then shares it with audiences of all ages. Learn about the aspects of touring: putting up/striking sets, caring for props and costumes, dealing with challenges of varying performance spaces. This exploration of theatre and acting will produce from one to four tour performances as well as a performance in the OST Spring Student Showcase and may require students to miss 2 to 3 days of school.

On-Camera – Episodic Web Series: Bilingual Class

SAC - OYP - On Camera Beginners
Acting for the camera, students will learn and practice the basics of filmmaking and acting. This class provides students with an opportunity for artistic expression as together, with their teacher, they create an episodic web series to be aired every two weeks. Students may visit other OST classes to tape and create an OST commercial for social media and the OST website. The audience will enjoy their production in the Spring Student Showcase and throughout the year on the OST website.

TACo operates as an audition-entry company for students 15 and older. It is composed of a professional director and a group of dedicated students who collectively run the company and are involved in every aspect, including design, stage management, direction, Front of House, building, acting, promotion and financial reporting. There will be one TACo production in February 2019 on stage in the Richcraft Theatre. Rehearsal times depend on the company, but will include both week night and weekend times.

Teen Portfolio Development  - Drawing and Painting Emphasis

SAC-OSA-F18ST01C Teen Portfolio Dev
This course will focus on developing students’ observational skills while focusing on tone, form, proportion, likeness, depth, composition, and texture. Special attention will be given to portraiture, life drawing, and still life. Students will work from a model in preparation for the Canterbury visual arts interview. Through a variety of painting, drawing, mixed media, and sculpture projects, students will refine their skills and develop a substantial body of work. This course will cover all of the requirements for the Canterbury visual arts portfolio. Also available to teens wanting to attend De la Salle or pursuing their own interest in art. This course is open to new and returning students. Students are asked to bring their own sketchbooks each class. (Tuition includes one draped model.)

Please note: Taking the Teen Portfolio Development course is however not a guarantee that all students will be accepted in the school of their choice.

Gingerbread House Workshop

SAC - GPS - Gingerbread House
Two participants for 1 price can come and create a beautiful handbuilt pottery Gingerbread House. You and a friend, you and your child, or you and your partner will build the gingerbread house together using clay slabs during this 3 hour workshop. Both participants will use handbuilding techniques such as coils and carving to embellish your unique house. Once the house is constructed and decorated participants will use under-glaze to paint the house. Our technicians will take care of firing the house in our kilns. Your gingerbread house will be ready 3 weeks after the workshop for you to pick up.

Lise Roy was a patron of the arts. She was an active employee and member of Arts Ottawa East. Above all she wanted to share her love for the arts with children. The “Lise Roy Memorial Family Workshops” is a series of workshops open to the public, free of charge, to those who have not yet experienced the joy of pottery. It is Lise and Don Roy’s gift and wish to extend the reach of the arts to all. If you haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy the craft of pottery with your children, please sign up. This course is an introductory wheel course. Class duration 2.5 hours for six consecutive weeks.  The student will cover the basic techniques for the beginner. One Night on the Wheel

SAC - GPS - One night on the wheel
Have you wanted to try making pottery on the wheel? Here is your opportunity to enjoy one evening discovering the art of throwing clay. During this 2 hour workshop you will learn to throw one small pot. After the workshop our technicians will trim and fire your piece and it will be ready for you to pick up in 2 weeks. Come and relax while experiencing the joy of clay. All materials included.

A wonderful way to share some special time in this activity with your child or grandchild. The students will learn the basic hand building techniques such as coils and pinch pots. Adults will make their own project. Cost is per person and materials are included.
